1. Launch in 1957
.The Omega Speedmaster debuted in 1957 as part of Omega’s “Professional” trilogy, alongside the Seamaster 300 and the Railmaster.
.It was originally designed for motorsports and featured the first tachymeter scale on the bezel instead of the dial.
.The first model, CK2915, had broad arrow hands and a steel bezel.
2. NASA and Space Missions
.In the early 1960s, NASA tested several chronographs for use in space.
.The Speedmaster passed all the rigorous tests and was flight-qualified by NASA in 1965.
.It became the official watch for all manned space missions.
3. First Watch on the Moon (1969)
.Buzz Aldrin wore an Omega Speedmaster on the Apollo 11 mission, making it the first watch worn on the Moon.
.Neil Armstrong left his Speedmaster in the Lunar Module as a backup.
4. Apollo 13 and the Silver Snoopy
.During Apollo 13, astronauts used the Speedmaster to time a critical engine burn.
This timing helped them return safely to Earth.
